Instagram CEO on Stories: Snapchat deserves all the credit

The one thing you never hear in Silicon Valley is an entrepreneur admit they copied someone else. Yet there in the headquarters of Facebook, the world’s most prolific product cloner, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom surprised me.

Instagram will soon let you filter comments on your own account

Instagram is taking an unusual step to deal with the complicated ethics of online commenting. It’s giving users the ability to make the choice about what’s acceptable or not for themselves.

Instagrammers really want you to turn on notifications to avoid death by algorithm

Instagram today is an endless sea of meaningless posts asking you to turn on post notifications for each account you follow. Brands and professional Instagrammers are worried that they are going to disappear from your Instagram feed once the company turns on its algorithmic feed.

Instagram May Change Your Feed, Personalizing It With an Algorithm

For years, we have been trained to view web postings from our friends in a certain order. Refresh the top of your various “feeds” — the running column of content on some versions of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — and you will see the latest news at the top.

  • The new video product is something that the service said it was planning to do for two years now.
  • In a sense, video on Instagram is not a complete surprise. After the rise of products like Viddy and Socialcam last summer, many have expected some sort of mobile video offering from either Facebook or Instagram.
  • Facebook has gone after competitors in the past with varying degrees of success. Poke has been a spectacular flop. Same with the Quora-like Facebook Questions, and the very Foursquare-ish Facebook Places.
  • In other words, just because Facebook is aping your product, doesn’t mean you’re gonna get crushed.

FBGR1

AllThingsD: Daily active users as a percentage of monthly active users — usually a good sign of how engaged users are — is very slowly yet very steadily on the rise, at about 60 percent compared to 55 percent since Q1 of 2011.

Techcrunch: CEO Mark Zuckerberg said today during the company’s Q1 earnings call. Adding ads could end up stunting Instagram’s rapid growth. He said, more than once during the call, that Instagram is currently growing at a faster rate than FB did at the same age, and it now has 100 million users.

Whatsapp
